Louisville Taco Week, Southend Proud, Taco Week

El Comal brings authentic Mexican cuisine to Dixie Highway for Taco Week!

Happy Taco Week Louisville!

I’m so excited for this week y’all and I’ve already got plans for Taco Luchador, homemade tacos and we kicked off taco week early last night at El Comal Taqueria on Dixie Highway and I was thoroughly impressed with the environment, the food, the beer, and the great service!

Way back in 2020 when that pesky little pandemic started I had heard rumblings through the internet world that El Comal was amazing and their street taco trays were to die for. At the time, restaurants were closed so we did end up ordering delivery but to be honest at that time I wasn’t super impressed. Probably user error and I wasn’t really sure what to order but thankfully I decided to give them another go about a year later and we ordered delivery again and I loved our selections!

Last night after a busy day of photoshoots and home showings the fam and I decided that we were in the mood for some Mexican flair and decided to dine in at El Comal for the first time. Walking into the old Jessie’s Diner was nostalgic, to say the least, it had probably been about 7 years since Ryan and I had stepped into that restaurant and we talked about the last time we were in there eating breakfast all those years ago!

The kids settled in and quickly decided that they wanted no part of authentic Mexican cuisine and ordered a quesadilla and chicken nuggets with fries. (Eye Roll) But queso and chips were a must. Also, I saw the homemade guac on the menu and quickly added that to the tab as well. When the guac came out it was chunky and loaded with all the goodies and had an amazing flavor. It disappeared pretty quickly.

After drinks and a round of beers for the husband and myself were ordered we checked out the expansive menu and tried to decide on what we were going to eat.

I knew I was in the mood for tacos so I ordered 2 Huevos con Chorizo (Eggs with Chorizo) and 2 Carnitas (Fried Pork). Mr. Ryan ordered a burrito that was the size of his face. Our food came out so fast and looked and smelled amazing. The tacos were served with 2 types of sauce, one mild and one BURN YOUR FACE OFF, and limes. lol. I gave each taco a little squirt of all three, drizzled some leftover queso on them and went to work. The tacos were flavorful and each had the perfect amount of substance and spice. The chorizo and eggs had a wonderful flavor that almost had me wishing I had gotten two more of those instead of the carnitas. Until I tried the carnitas of course. The onions and fried pork with a squeeze of lime were *chefs kiss*.

I didn’t really get a chance to ask Mr. Cecil how his burrito was because when I looked up from my plate, his was about gone too. I’m pretty sure he had no complaints and definitely said we will be returning soon. I can’t believe we live in the Southend and haven’t been INSIDE El Comal but I promise you this will not be the last time.

If you’re in the area this week, stop in for some Tacos and celebrate Taco week with a wonderful local restaurant.
